JOAN WANG

Artistic Director / Violin Professor

Joan Wang, is a native of Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. She was born into a musical family and started piano and violin lessons at a young age.  She attended prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 17, prior to coming to the United States to study violin performance.

 

Joan holds both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts in violin performance from the California Institute of the Arts, studying under Stewart Canin, himself the long-time concertmaster of the San Francisco Symphony, and Yoko Matsuda, the first violinist of the Sequoia String Quartet.

Upon moving to Albuquerque New Mexico, Joan Joined the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra-later the New Mexico Philharmonic She has played with the Santa Fe Symphony, the Santa Fe Opera, and is the assistant concertmaster of the Opera Southwest.

Joan enjoys and excels at teaching privately and working with the Youth Symphony Program in Albuquerque.  She served as the Music Director of the Oak Grove Classical Academy Orchestra and the Violin Instructor at Axiom Christian Classical School.

Beginning the Fall of 2023, Joan Wang is taking up the position of Artistic Director of Nevada Arts Academy.
